To put it simply, the new PlayStation Video app would be the Android entry point where video content is concerned, specifically targeting content that one might have already picked up earlier on on the PlayStation. To look back in history briefly, the Sony Entertainment Network was launched on its gaming consoles back earlier in 2012, where the platform then came with video as well as music streaming.
Since then, Sony decided to separate video and audio content, and this is where the PlayStation Video platform delivers the latter bit. Right now, the Sony PlayStation Video app will be available only to their own Android-powered devices, which means the many millions more Android handsets and tablets out there are unable to play nice with PlayStation Video. Not only that, the app’s reach will be limited to just Australia, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK.
It looks like this Android app will hopefully bait you into purchasing new video content, but the app’s reach will first need to expand if it were to compete against the likes of Google Play, Amazon Prime, and Apple’s iTunes.
